Our Story: Community Roots and a Bright Future

At BranchVet, compassionate care and community connection come together in the heart of Hill Country. You may know us by another name—BranchVet was formerly CanyonVet Spring Branch, one of three locations under the CanyonVet brand. Today, we’re proud to continue our legacy of exceptional veterinary care as an independent hospital under a new name, with the same dedicated team and heartfelt mission. Our new name, logo, and branding celebrate our independence and commitment to our local community.

How It All Began

BranchVet’s journey began with Dr. Ryan Bullock and Dr. Keith Leakey, two veterinarians who met in veterinary school and became fast friends. After graduating from Texas A&M University in 2005, they worked together at a small animal practice in Dallas, Texas. They realized their dream in 2011 by acquiring Canyon Animal Clinic and Canyon City Animal Hospital in Canyon Lake, Texas.

As their practices flourished, they merged the two hospitals in 2014 and opened a new location in New Braunfels. Their expansion continued in 2019 when they partnered with longtime associate Dr. Stephanie Buntain to acquire and rebrand Animal House Veterinary Clinic in Spring Branch as CanyonVet Spring Branch. Dr. Buntain, a 2013 Texas A&M graduate who joined our family in 2016, became the primary veterinarian at the Spring Branch location in 2019.

In January 2024, we welcomed Dr. Angela Lackie to the team as an associate veterinarian, further strengthening our commitment to providing exceptional care to the pets of Hill Country.

Why the New Name?

In 2021, Dr. Bullock and Dr. Leakey decided to sell the Canyon Lake and New Braunfels locations while retaining 100% ownership of the Spring Branch location with Dr. Buntain. To reflect this transition and forge a unique identity, CanyonVet Spring Branch officially became BranchVet. Our new name, logo, and branding celebrate our independence and commitment to our local community.
